CARRY ON TOURING

Real People, Real Lives, Real Jobs

About Us

Tim Brennan’s petition asks the UK Government to negotiate a free cultural work permit that gives touring professionals visa free travel throughout the 27 EU states for music touring professionals, bands, musicians, artists, TV and sports celebrities that tour the EU to perform shows and events and to secure a Carnet exception for touring equipment. Very clearly Tim’s petition chimed a chord with the public and the many UK artists and professionals who tour in the cities and nations across Europe, with over 280,000 signatures that continues to rise. On the back of Tim’s petition, the Carry on Touring campaign was established to keep the pressure on Government to go back to the negotiating table.

Carry on Touring is the umbrella campaign which all those who tour – and rely on touring - can support and sit under. It brings together voices from across the touring, cultural and creative industries sectors to secure cross-party support for Tim Brennan’s petition and campaign for a return of free EU movement for all touring artists and professionals. The strength of this campaign is that it is inclusive reaching across the sector, industry and political parties. This public facing campaign brings  a spectrum of voices together to demonstrate its diversity and demographic.

Music Producers Guild

The MPG represents Record Producers, Recording Engineers,

Mixers & Mastering Engineers.

The MPG is a non-profit organisation that represents professional Record Producers, Recording Engineers, Mixers and Mastering Engineers from all backgrounds as well as Recording Studios to make sure that their voice is being heard within the music industry. Run by members for members, the Guild is led by five elected directors in a voluntary role.

Formed as a Guild rather than a Trade Association, MPG has no party political agenda, but we do represent our community to government so that our voice is heard. Individually, and through membership of UK Music and the CMM, we lobby government on matters that affect our members, including Brexit, self-employed issues, and Covid-19 support. We also support members in their dealings with local government and devolved administrations. We also encourage and support discussion and development within our community through various events, sub-groups such as the Mastering, Pro Tools and Logic user groups, and joint events with other industry trade bodies.

The MPG are proud to support the Carry On Touring campaign, not just in solidarity with our talented colleagues in the live sector, but in recognition of the importance of the UK as an international touring destination for our members, who rely on international artists being able to tour freely and work with our world-renowned producers, engineers and studios.

The Association of Photographers

Promoting, protecting & inspiring professional image-makers

since 1968

The Association of Photographers (AOP) was originally formed in 1968 when a group of influential professional photographers came together to form the Association of Fashion & Advertising Photographers (AFAP). It would later become AFAEP, when editorial photographers were included and more recently, the AOP, in 1993.

Our objectives remain to promote, protect and inspire professional image-makers and to develop, encourage, support and maintain best practices in professional photography across all sectors of the industry. We lobby and campaign for the rights of image-makers wherever we can.

Brexit has, at a stroke, created huge barriers to trade for our members, many of whom have built businesses with clients across the EU. The lack of clarity and formalities created by the chaos of Brexit is impacting our members economically. The creative industries in the UK are a success story, and we want to be able keep it that way by supporting this campaign.

Bectu

The Union for Creative Ambition

Representing over 40,000 workers in media and entertainment

Bectu represents thousands of staff, contract and freelance workers in non-performance roles in the arts and entertainment industry, including many who (pre-pandemic) regularly tour Europe with musicians, theatre productions and other performers.

We support #CarryOnTouring because the economic and bureaucratic barriers presented by the new EU trade deal will have a hugely detrimental impact on the ability of Bectu members to work in Europe and vice versa. Consequently, this will damage both the UK economy and cultural experience.

Freelancers make Theatre Work

Campaign Group for 200,000+

Self-Employed & Freelancers.

"Freelancers make Theatre Work are a campaign group who have come together to create an inclusive, independent community for the 200,000+ self-employed and freelance workers from all areas of theatre, opera, dance and live performance, who make up 70% of the UK theatre workforce.

They are working to ensure that the needs of this vital workforce are heard and understood – and that their many voices are given space.

FMTW are vitally aware of the very real issues already being experienced by so many of our community because of the situation we are in post leaving the EU earlier this year. While the pandemic may hide some problems, there are already many insurmountable barriers to us being able to work within the EU where we have had such a varied and wide exchange of ideas and work in the past. We are campaigning to raise awareness and putting pressure on every area of government to address these problems urgently."

IMPALA

A non-profit making pan-European organisation

Levelling the playing field for independent music across Europe

Formed in 2000 by prominent independent music companies and national trade associations, IMPALA is a non-profit making pan-European organisation with a scientific and artistic purpose, dedicated to small, micro and medium sized music companies and self-releasing artists.

With over 5,000 members, IMPALA has a broad ranging agenda. You can read more about our mission, what we are currently working on and our milestones, as well as more detail and accompanying documents on specific priorities on our resources page.

European music market is not defined by the EU and includes the whole of the UK - it cannot be that UK musicians and crews touring in Europe face more burdens than even some “third country” nationals. IMPALA will keep pushing hard for an outcome that recognises the contribution of touring musicians and their crews to European culture and allows them to continue to tour all across Europe seamlessly and are happy to support campaigns like Carry On Touring with the same common goal.

‘Musicians’ Union General Secretary Horace Trubridge says: The MU are happy to endorse the work of Carry On Touring. Whilst we have been at the front of talks with the UK Government to push for easements for the creative sector, it remains that the promises the UK Music Industry were given prior to January 2021 have not been followed through.

Carry On Touring, along with other industry bodies are an important part of the lobby to raise awareness of the plight the music industry finds itself in now BREXIT has happened.

BFMA

The British Fashion Model Agents Association

Trade Association of the UK Fashion Model Industry
Since 1974

The British Fashion Model Agents Association is the trade Association of the UK fashion model industry. Formerly the Association of Model Agents, it was founded in 1974 to protect and manage the careers of our models. This continues to be the aim of the Association.

The BFMA is officially affiliated with the BRITISH FASHION COUNCIL.

Brexit has completely ignored the EU touring needs of the modelling industry, among many others, to the extent that a model will need a different visa/work permit for any EU country in which he or she may wish to work.
25% of the UK industry income is generated directly from the EU. This total disregard for the sector puts the careers of individuals and businesses at serious risk. Additionally, it will lead to a significant loss of revenue to UK PLC.
