Dear NAME OF MP/PEER
TIME TO UNLOCK THE DEADLOCK ON UK-EU TOURING
I am writing to you to ask for your support to help unlock the deadlock for the UK & EU’s touring professionals, artists and creatives who want to get back to work and back on tour.
The UK’s failure to secure an exemption in the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA) for those artists, creatives and professionals who go on tour in Europe is having a catastrophic impact on the UK's cultural economy and has affected all touring art forms but in particular, young and emerging UK artists.
The 90/180-day limit in the Schengen area is proving to be a huge barrier to those who rely on touring for a living. UK passport holders are simply being turned down or not offered the jobs in the
first place. The unintended consequences created by the lack of an exemption in the TCA means that UK touring professionals, artists and creatives are not being given the work and/or they are
being overwhelmed by the hoops and hurdles they now need to jump if they go and stay on tour, that they are simply giving up.
Please read this letter from Steve Barney https://bit.ly/Steve_Barney which is just one example of how the TCA is not working.
There is widespread cross-party support in Parliament and across the EU for action to be taken to unlock the deadlock created by Brexit. It is time to listen to the very real experiences of the UK’s touring professionals, artists and creatives and call on the Government to cut the unintended red tape and end bureaucracy, which UK touring professionals are now forced to navigate.
As you will know, the value of the UK-EU cultural exchange is huge to both to the British economy and our general wellbeing so the economic benefit should not be undermined by the unnecessary red tape created by the TCA. I very much hope that you will support Carry On Touring and do everything you possibly can to resolve this issue so that the UK can continue to lead the way and create rich new collaborations for the generations to come as a matter of urgency.
As my MP, I would be very grateful if you could raise this matter with the new Secretary of State on my behalf and/or if I could have the opportunity to meet with you to discuss.
